Last Sunday, Vivienne from TriSportsPlus truly surprised herself at Duston Tri with a PB on this course and coming 4th in her category. "Ok so I have just gone up to the 50 - 54's but fantastic. Even more so as my training over the Winter, especially on the bike has been minimal to say the least".

Beginners’ running group starting Monday 10 January 2011

Always fancied running and don’t know where to start? Don’t worry, help is at hand! Huntingdon’s running club is organising an eight week running course. The course is for complete beginners or those returning to running after a spell away. Dependent on current fitness levels, you will be taken through a progressive training plan, beginning with a combination of walking and jogging, building up to 30 minutes non-stop jogging. In addition to the Monday evening runs you will be expected to run outside of the group in order to improve. This is a supportive and friendly group of runners, many of whom started with the group as beginners.

There is an £20 fee for the course to cover membership of the running club, training support materials and coaching.

If you fancy a challenge in 2011, please email Claire at monday@brjroadrunners.org.uk. Places are limited and we will need to discuss your fitness levels prior to commencing the course.

Ultimate Performance Running Head Torch

TriSportsPlus is pleased to be one of the first to offer the Ultimate Performance Head Torch in its store in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire and on line at TriSportsPlus.co.uk. Nifty little light, very lightweight at just 25gm but giving a punch when it comes to showing the way.
If like me you run on roads that in places have intermittant street lighting, then this is a great little tool to keep you sure footed and clear of obstacles (otherwise known as bollards). The number of times I've nearly come a cropper and I know they are there!!
This looks to be a great new product from the 1000 mile team and the new brand Ultimate Performance.

St. Neots 1/2 Marathon

Well I did it, 1hr 53min 49sec and chuffed to bits. Thanks to Louise who set off with me as we both decided to try for under 2 hours. Cold morning with a breeze so not bad running weather and the event was well organised to allow you to keep warm indoors till just pre the start, (never had that before a triathlon, maybe it's juist the ones I enter). It was in fact a very well organised event by the St. Neots Riverside Runners, so well done to them.
Keeping with the pace setter meant I didn't go off like 'a bat out of hell' as I would have done, only to die in the 2nd half of the race. I'd been told before the race about the 'hills' that last the first 3 miles and then some steep sharp shocks later on, well I was expecting something more than a gentle slope, I couldn't class it even a mole hill. Yep the 2 in the middle of the run were steeper but they were short, so manageable.
At half way, both Louise and I realised we had more in us and pressed on ahead, at 9.5 miles though I had reached my pace and pressed Louise to go on ahead. I kept this pace up well and even passed a couple of fellow BRJ Club runners who gone off quicker than me. Coming into the last couple of miles we hit a headwind but it wasn't for long and I managed to up the speed again in the final mile and put in a dash for the last couple of hundred metres to the line.
The best bit, apart from coming under 2 hrs, was the great support from everyone along the way, from fellow BRJ club members and friends, to the general public who were there for others but lifted the spirits of us all.
Would I do it again, at heart though I think I'm a 10k runner but yes, now I know what it's like and I know what to expect, how to pace myself etc. It's also good endurance building to help for the 'Olympic distance' triathlons I'm planning for next year.
So St. Neots Half Marathon, you'll be seeing Vivienne from TriSportsPlus again in 2011 (with a challenge to myself of a 1hr 45min time), thanks

Vivienne from TriSportsPlus will be doing her first (and probably only!!) 1/2 Marathon on Sunday 21st November in St. Neots Cambridgeshire.
"Could be interesting as I really haven't put in enough training, but we'll get round somehow. Owner of TriSportsPlus, I'll be running for my local club, BRJ Runners Huntingdon and there'll be plenty of us, so come along a cheer us on our merry way". Race starts at 10am and finishes... who knows??? I'm aiming for around 2 hrs but could be quite a bit longer as it says it could be windy. Catch the follow-up blog on Monday

I'm considering taking a 2nd compression brand: Zensah at TriSportsPlus, probably only the leg sleeves which come in a myriad of colours and get some good write-ups, however it's not a brand that I know much about.
